The first charging/discharging unit of Rudong 100MWh Gravity Energy Storage System (GESS), invested and constructed by China Tianying Inc. (CNTY), has been successfully tested recently, highlighting its exemplary and leading role in energy storage and further boosting the multi-level and multi-sectoral coordinated development of Rudong's new energy sector. On the morning of May 4th, Chen Huiyu, Party Secretary of Rudong County, went to the Project site to see the Project progress, greeted the front-line workers sticking to their posts during China's Labour Day Holiday, and expressed congratulations to this successful testing.

With a total investment of RMB 650 million, the Rudong 100MWh GESS Project represents the first-of-its-kind at this MW scale around the globe. This 120-meter-long, 110-meter-wide and 148-meter-high energy storage tower employs the world's top-notch gravity energy storage technologies, with the vertical lifting and horizontal movement of mobile blocks controlled via AI algorithms to realize the conversion between potential energy and electricity. The main construction was capped out and completed on September 26, 2023; then in October the same year, the Project was selected as the first-of-its-kind major technical equipment (project) in the energy field by China's National Energy Administration (NEA). In January 2024, it was listed as the pilot demo project for emerging energy storage by the NEA together with the 17MW/68MWh GESS project in Zhangye, Gansu Province.

Party Secretary Chen listened attentively to the project introduction by the project manager, and visited the charging/discharging operation of the two slices. He pointed out that gravity energy storage, as a new form of energy storage that may be coupled with new energy, can regulate energy conservation in a larger time scale and space range, thus enhancing the grid capabilities to accommodate renewable energy sources, providing frequency regulation and peak shifting services for the Jiangsu power grid, and boosting new energy consumption in the region. The successful testing of the first charging/discharging unit of the Project fully proves CNTY's technologies and strengths to build and operate large-scale commercial GESS projects backed by its advanced GESS technologies, strong R&D and manufacturing capabilities of new energy equipment, and solid zero-carbon technical competence, which forms a firm foundation for the successful grid-connected operation of the overall Project. Rudong will provide strong support for the Project with higher efficiency and better services. Building on this successful testing, the government and CNTY are expected to further integrate their respective advantageous resources and strengthen communication and cooperation, so as to jointly propel the high-quality development of the green energy sector.

Chairman Yan emphasized that Rudong's favorable business environment and efficient services have greatly facilitated the fast and high-quality advancement of the Rudong 100MWh GESS Project since its commencement. CNTY will continue to do its utmost to ensure the smooth delivery and operation of the Project as expected, and make positive contributions to the high quality development of Rudong's economy and society.
